Chiropractic Adjustments

Ada Family Chiropractic offers many adjusting techniques, including traditional “hands on” manual adjustments, such as Diversified and Thompson, as well as “low force” techniques, including Activator, Koren Specific Technique (KST), Pain Neutralization Technique (PNT), and Sacro Occipital Technique (SOT). While our manual adjustments are delivered with specificity and relative gentleness, there are also a range of alternative techniques which allow for correction without the “clicking” or “popping” sounds. Therefore, treatment can be catered to better accommodate each patient’s individual health needs.  We adjust the spine, as well as the extremities, to restore proper function to all the joints of the body.

Integrative Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a highly effective form of treatment for neuromusculoskeletal (NMS) conditions.  This differs from traditional acupuncture, and is based on neuro-anatomy and modern scientific study of the NMS systems.  It works by causing a microlesion within the pathological tissue, thus breaking up shortened tissues, inhibiting pain reflexes, normalizing the inflammatory response, and centrally mediating the pain.  Dry needling enhances the body’s ability to heal itself, which ultimately reduces pain.  Dr. Tim and Dr. Bonnie are both certified in IDN.  Click HERE to learn more about IDN.

Spinal Decompression

Spinal decompression therapy is a modern, non-surgical procedure that effectively treats low back, neck, and radiating leg and arm pain associated with spinal disc herniation, degenerative spinal discs, and facet joint syndromes. In most cases the treatments are completely painless. The number of sessions needed and your specific treatment plan with be determined by the doctor during your examination. Spinal Decompression creates a negative pressure, or a vacuum, inside the disc, allowing the herniation to be pulled back into the disc. In addition, the flow of blood and nutrients is restored back into the disc allowing the body’s natural fibroblastic response to heal the injury and re-hydrate the disc. Traction and inversion tables, at best, can lower the intradiscal pressure from a +90 to a +30 mmHg. Spinal Decompression is clinically proven to reduce the intradiscal pressure to between a -150 to -200 mmHg.

Cupping Therapy

Cupping is an ancient medical treatment, with roots in Chinese Medicine.  Suction cups of varying sizes are attached to the body, drawing blood to the surface of the skin.  Hence, the bruise-like marks.

Cupping has many benefits, including pain reduction, improved relaxation, improved skin health, improved digestion, and decreased symptoms of respiratory illnesses.  Treatments improve blood circulation, thereby speeding up healing, reducing pain and easing muscle soreness.

Dr. Tim, Dr. Bonnie and Chesna are all certified in Cupping Therapy.

NKT (Neurokinetic Therapy)

NeuroKinetic Therapy (NKT) is a breakthrough assessment system that seeks to get at the actual cause of pain.  Most doctors simply “chase” pain until they find some treatment or exercise that removes this pain.  NKT addresses movement patterns which are stored in the brain and are the actual cause of pain in most cases.  Soft tissue treatments like ART, Graston, FAKTR, Dry Needling, Vacuum Therapy, and Massage are great, but if your symptoms continue to return, these techniques were most likely treating symptoms or compensations of the actual cause of your pain.  Dr. Bonnie is one of two certified NKT practitioners in the state of Oklahoma.

Watch the founder on NKT explain what it’s all about HERE.

Soft Tissue Treatment

We utilize a variety of soft tissue techniques, including Myofascial Release, Instrument-Assisted Neurosensory Modulation (IANSM), Post Isometric Relaxation (PIR), Active Isolated Stretching (AIS), Trigger Point Therapy, Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT), Functional Movement Techniques (FMT), Integrative Dry Needling (IDN) and cupping therapy.  The goal is to further speed the healing process by promoting the removal of inflammation and breaking down scar tissue.

Drs. Tim, Bonnie and John are all certified in FMT; Dr. Tim and Dr. Bonnie are both certified in IDN and cupping therapy; Dr. Bonnie is certified in NKT.

Physiotherapy

We offer a range of physiotherapy treatments to help speed the healing process. These include:  intersegmental traction, ultrasound, electrical muscle stimulation, interferential therapy, ice and heat.

Functional Rehabilitation

Functional rehabilitation incorporates clinical lifestyle recommendations and functional exercises to help patients regain normal function of their spine and limbs, returning patients to their active daily lifestyles. Therapy begins by identifying faulty patterns of movement often resulting from poor posture, improper lifting mechanics, fitness training errors or injury.  We also use stretching and stabilization exercises to help with range of motion as well as improved strength of affected muscles.

Kinesio/Sports taping

Kinesio/Sports Taping is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion. It is used to successfully treat a variety of orthopedic, neuromuscular, neurological and medical conditions.  All of our doctors are certified in Functional Movement Techniques and use RockTape for all of our taping needs.

KinesioTape is used to:

  • Re-educate the neuromuscular system
  • Reduce pain
  • Enhance performance
  • Prevent injury
  • Promote improved circulation and healing

Celluma (LED) Light Thearpy

What is Light Therapy?
Light Emitting Diode (LED) phototherapy is the application of light energy to tissue to obtain therapeutic benefits. The energy is used to improve cellular performance. Phototherapy is known for its healing and anti-inflammatory properties and has a variety of applications across many medical fields. Research has shown that phototherapy can: increase circulation, accelerate tissue repair, decrease wrinkles, decrease inflammation, improve skin tone and wrinkles, texture and clarity, ease muscle and joint pain, stiffness, spasm and arthritis and kill acne bacteria, and much more.

How Does Light Energy work?
Specific wavelengths of light energy, when properly absorbed, up-regulates compromised cells. The light (photons) energy is absorbed by photoacceptors in the mitochondria and used to create adenosine triphosphate (ATP). The ATP produced then stimulates various metabolic processes which can result in the repair and regeneration of cell and tissue components. In an article, “Therapeutic Light” – by Chukuku S. Enwemeka, PT, PhD, FACSM, he wrote “other reported mechanisms of light-induced beneficial effects include modulation of prostaglandin levels, alteration of somatosensory evoked potential and nerve conduction velocity, and hyperemia of treated tissues. The resultant clinical benefits include pain relief in conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, bursitis, tendonitis, ankle sprain, and temporomandibular joint dysfunction, shoulder and neck pain, arthritis, and post-herpetic neuralgia, as well as tissue repair in cases of diabetic ulcer, venous ulcer, mouth ulcer, fractures, tendon rupture, ligamentous, tear, torn cartilage, and nerve injury.”

What is Celluma?
Celluma is unique and quite unlike any other low-level light therapy device available today. Based on NASA research, Celluma delivers blue, red and near-infrared light energy simultaneously to safely treat a wide variety of conditions. Each wavelength is absorbed by different molecules that act as a signaling mechanism for different cellular processes. For example, some reduce inflammation and some kill bacteria, while others enhance localized circulation.

Prenatal Care

Dr. Bonnie is trained in Webster Technique, which is specific for analyzing and adjusting pregnant women in order to restore proper joint movement and to balance the muscles and ligaments of the pelvis.  This helps to reduce the causes of intrauterine constraint and allows the baby to be in the best possible position for birth.  To learn more about Webster Technique visit click HERE.

“If a woman is pregnant her needs are increased because the nervous system of a woman directs the creation of the fetus and the embryo to begin with. When a woman receives adjustments during her pregnancy, there is also better delivery, less back pain, healthier children, and less chance of a miscarriage” ~Sir Jay Holder, M.D., D.C., Ph.D., of Miami, Floida

Pediatric Care

Chiropractic care has a powerful impact on children and infants. Just like adults, children also experience many traumatic events and forces throughout their lives that can cause improper joint function.  Some of these include: childbirth, falls, accidents, sports, heavy backpacks, etc. Children receiving regular chiropractic adjustments have strengthened immune systems, fewer behavioral problems, and sleep better, just to name a few of the “side effects”. The adjustments allow the spine and nervous system to grow and develop optimally and reduce future health problems.  But don’t worry parents, we won’t “pop” your little ones.  Our pediatric adjustments are gentle and safe.  To learn more please visit www.icpa4kids.org.

Nutritional medicine and food allergy/sensitivity testing

Chronic inflammation is increasingly recognized as the root cause of many “modern” diseases, such as auto-immune diseases (RA, Lupus, etc.), heart disease and cancer. Causing pain, fatigue, cognitive decline, and depression, chronic inflammation has reached epidemic proportions.  Managing inflammation on a long-term basis promotes healing and natural pain management. We offer sound nutritional advice and quality nutritional supplements from Anabolic Laboratories, Metagenics, NuMedica and Standard Process, as well as Homeopathic Remedies from White Dove Healing Arts.  In many cases proper lab tests will be required to identify deficiencies and proper nutritional treatment protocols.  Food/environmental allergy and sensitivity testing is used to further identify agents causing inflammation, thus hindering the healing potential of your body.

Craniosacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on method of evaluating and enhancing the functioning of a physiological body system called the craniosacral system – comprised of the membranes and cerebrospinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord.

Using a soft touch which is generally no greater than 5 grams – about the weight of a nickel – practitioners release restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system. CST is increasingly used as a preventive health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease, and it’s effective for a wide range of medical problems associated with pain and dysfunction.
